Bio...
Jared Sims began the study of piano and saxophone at a young age in his home state of Virginia. Today, he is based in Boston and performs on all of the saxophones as well as clarinet and flute. He has toured throughout the United States and as far away as Europe and India. Sims was a founding member of the jazz/rock quartet called Miracle Orchestra, awarded “Best of Boston 1996,” whose active touring schedule spanned from 1995 through 2001.

Today, Sims regularly performs with the Jared Sims Trio as heard on the recording 'Acoustic Shadow.' This project features Sims' tenor playing and his original jazz organ triocompositions. In addition, Jared has a group called Phat Beats -n- Noize, which fuses Sims' angular alto saxophone soloing and laptop computer work with live hip hop beats and a live DJ.

Sims is also active with many other projects. He has performed and recorded with Mango Blue, a Boston-based Afro-Latin band. He performs regularly with the organ funk band Akashic Record, a staple act in the New England club scene. Sims also has recorded and performed with Toussaint Liberator and Buru Style, an electrifying reggae/soul band. Sims is also a member of the adventurous four-saxophone-bass-drums jazz group Dead Cat Bounce, which has won several Boston Phoenix Jazz Polls and grants from Chamber Music America.

Sims' longest association is with the jazz group Blueprint Project with guitarist Eric Hofbauer and pianist Tyson Rogers. Together, their performance and touring experience spans over a decade and they are credited with four studio recordings.

Sims has played Cleveland’s Tri-C Jazz Festival, Flint (Michigan) Jazz Festival, New Haven (Connecticut) Jazz Festival and Northsea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands. He has performed with such diverse artists as bassist Cecil McBee, Dutch percussionist Han Bennink, pianist Ran Blake, rapper Matisyahu, DJ Logic, bassist Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers), Artie ShawBand, and Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra.

In 2007, Downbeat Magazine recognized the Blueprint Project with Han Bennink recording People I Like—with four stars. In 2005 Downbeat gave Blueprint Project featuring Cecil McBee and Matt Wilson four stars as well.

Sims has appeared as leader or sideman on more than thirty different albums crossing several genres. His studio work has been featured on national and international television as well as several popular video games. Sims has served on the faculties of University of New Hampshire and Southern New Hampshire University and is currently a guest artist and faculty member at the University of Rhode Island.
